I would suggest that you get a screw set so you'll have all the screws that you need in this process. I think the size of MacBook Pro's hard drive is 2. You also need a another Mac for you to retrieve your files - Windows won't be able to see it. Then if it won't work, you go to torrent sites look for "Yosemite Bootable" I think it's a 7GB file so make sure to have a 16GB around. If that's done downloading, download TransMac.

On the bottom of the screen it says your Mac will start in recovery mode and when I click "Get Started" it again goes to the reboot loop and gives a random kernel panic error most of the times.. Can you please help me with what should I be doing? This was before I tried the hardware test myself.

If you you can boot this machine in what they call Target Disk Mode. This bypasses the OS and when connected to another Mac via Firewire or Thunderbolt will appear as an external hard drive and you can transfer files off. From here you can install a clean system without formatting that leaves your user files intact.
This is assuming the problem was just the botched system update and not that you have a failing hard drive. Headrush , Jan 7, Went to the Apple Store. They helped me do another backup of the actual files onto the hard drive not an image , then they did a reinstall of the operating system without formatting to leave the files intact. The computer works now. I'll mark this "solved". Show Ignored Content.
